Our Five Takeaways from Your Business Expo MK
What a fantastic day we had at Your Business Expo MK on 5 June! We all loved meeting so many
businesses and the people behind them – and running our first stand together as a team.
These were our five big takeaways from the event – not counting all the goodies we each bagged, of
course…
Take 1 – Planning is Everything
We put a lot of time and effort into getting ready for the expo, and had some seriously valuable
advice from Steve Lloyd from Exhibition Mastery https://exhibitionmastery.com/ before we
did. He’s the exhibition guru, and knows all there is to know about how to make your stand work its
hardest for you – and how to get the most out of your time there on the day. We followed all his
advice, and he was bang-on about everything!
Take 2 – People Love a Giveaway
From luxury hamper prize draws to lots of branded goodies (including some very comfortable socks,
from one stand!).
Our big offer on the day was a chance to win an Elite Review – a great place to start if you’re not
sure where your brand and marketing sits at the moment. Using our traffic light system, our team

Take 3 – Digital Sign-Ups
We prepared an electronic sign-up form beforehand (see Take 1) and filled it in on the spot with
every new business’s details – which saved us hours of admin and data entry afterwards!
Take 4 – Book a lunch
The food provided for exhibitors was brilliant. We all thoroughly enjoyed our delicious sandwiches,
crisps and cakes, provided by another local business, I Love Catering
https://ilovecatering.co.uk/ – there was a great choice, and our dietary requirements were all
very well met. The supply of tea, coffee, water and biscuits for the whole day was much appreciated
too!
Take 5 – Literally Take Five
There was a steady stream of visitors and other exhibitors to the stand all day, and we all needed a
break from the stand every so often – to get lunch, refreshments, and to walk around the other
exhibitors to see who was there, and engage in some more conversations. It was invaluable having
five of us there, because that made it so easy to do – there were always two or more of us on the
stand to meet passers-by, talk about their business and sign them up to the draw. That left the rest
free to mix, mingle and spread the Elite word!
The biggest takeaway for all of us was how much we enjoyed doing the event – before, during and
after – and how working together as a team will always make the biggest difference to the workload,
the effort and the outcome. But we wanted to make sure our new contacts had a takeaway as well –
so we prepared a little something extra for every new sign up we had on the day…
The Elite Challenge
Starting on the Monday after the expo, all new sign-ups received an email a day – one from each
member of the team – giving them a quick-and-easy tip for reviewing and improving a particular
aspect of their brand and marketing. We’ve had some great feedback already, and it’s been brilliant
to hear that it’s got them thinking!
